Run a Scout audit
BetaLaunch Scout on your whole site, on one area or on one task, and choose the screen size, the budget and what Scout may do.
Launch Flamio Scout from one short form. With the defaults, Scout audits the whole site and only looks and clicks, so it is safe on a live site.
Before you begin
- You need the Editor, Admin or Owner role. Viewers see the runs list, not the launch form.
- Select the project in the sidebar project switcher. The form has no project field: the chip at the top right of the page names the project the run belongs to and is billed to.
- Your organization needs enough tokens for the research budget. See Control what a run costs.
- The site must open on the public internet. See the limitations in the Flamio Scout overview.
Audit the whole site
Open Flamio Scout
In the sidebar, click Flamio Scout (badge Beta). Check the project chip at the top right of the page.
Enter the address
In Site URL, enter the page Scout starts from, for example example.com. Flamio adds https:// when you leave it out.
Pick the screen
Under Screen, select one:
| Option | What Scout audits |
|---|---|
| Desktop | The wide layout. This is the default. |
| Phone | The whole audit on a phone screen. |
| Both | Every page on desktop and on a phone. Takes longer. |
Set the research budget
Research budget is the most the run may spend. A higher budget buys a deeper audit. See Control what a run costs.
Keep the defaults
Leave Additional settings folded. Its line reads Explore · Read-only: the whole site, with Scout looking and clicking but never filling or submitting anything.
Launch the run
Click Launch Scout.
On an Explore run, Scout also works out what kind of site it is from its first page and walks the task a visitor most likely came for. The report shows it as Main path, with the kind of site and each step.
Audit one area or one task
Fill the basics
Open Flamio Scout, enter the Site URL, pick the Screen and set the Research budget.
Choose the mode
Open Additional settings. Under Mode, select one:
| Mode | What Scout covers |
|---|---|
| Explore | The whole site. This is the default. |
| Focused | Only the part you name, and the pages it takes. |
| Goal | One task done like a visitor — only the pages on its way. The report says what got in the way. |
| Board tasks | Tasks from your Jira, GitHub or Trello board, one by one. See Check tasks from your board. |
Describe the area or the goal
A box appears under the modes. For Focused, enter The area to test, for example "The signup and billing flows." For Goal, enter The goal to complete, for example "Sign up for a free account and reach the dashboard."
Launch Scout stays disabled until the box is filled.
Choose what Scout may do
Under What can Scout do?, select one:
- Read-only — looks and clicks, never fills or submits. Safe on a live site. This is the default.
- Interactive — can sign in, fill and submit forms. Use it only on a site you own.
When you select Interactive, the checkbox I own or am authorised to test this site — allow destructive actions. is ticked. With it ticked, Scout may also press delete and remove buttons and change real data. Untick it to keep those controls blocked while filling and submitting still work.
Launch the run
Click Launch Scout.
Interactive runs change real data
To reach pages behind your login, add a test account under Site access. See Test pages behind your login.
Result
The run page opens and updates while Scout works. Before the walk starts it shows what Scout is doing, for example "Waiting for a free Scout slot…" while the run is queued. During the walk, the tiles count pages, actions and tokens spent so far.
The status chip next to the address tells you where the run is:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Queued | Waiting to start. |
| Running | Scout is walking the site. |
| Synthesizing report | The walk is done and Scout is writing the report. |
| Completed | The report is ready. Click View report. |
| Failed | The run stopped with an error. The page says why. |
| Blocked by the site | Bot protection stopped Scout before the first page. Nothing was charged. |
| Site unreachable | The site could not be opened. Nothing was charged. |
